Throughout March we celebrate Women’s History Month, and March 8th was International Women’s Day. So, March is a great time to celebrate the inspiring women in your life. Throughout history women and girls have made profound contributions to numerous fields through their dedication and courage.

Here’s how the United Nations describes International Women’s Day:

“International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women, who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.”

Women play so many different roles in our lives. But, in our youth-obsessed culture, it can be easy to overlook the older women in our lives.

Read on for a few ideas on how to celebrate the senior women in your life!

Explore memories through photos

Take an afternoon to sift through old photos with the senior lady in your life. Enjoying old photos together is a great way to bond with your senior loved one while learning about the courageous life she has led. Old photos are excellent tools to help seniors remember their lives as well.

Feeling crafty? Use those old photos to create a scrapbook together!

Host a girls movie night

What better way to celebrate an older woman in your life than a movie night with the girls! Try inviting several generations of women in your family: grandmothers, granddaughters, daughters, nieces, and more. Then, pick a movie with a strong female lead, pop some popcorn, and enjoy!

Relax together with a spa day

You don’t have to spend an exorbitant amount of money to enjoy a spa day with your senior loved one. Instead, bring the spa to your living room! Create your own at-home facial, paint each other’s nails, and exchange soothing shoulder massages.

The best part? Quality time. It’s the moments spent together that truly matter.

A Final Word. . .

This month don’t forget to show the older women in your life some love. Whether you choose one of our recommendations, or something else entirely, what’s most important is the quality time you spend with your senior loved one. You will both appreciate it!
